Being lonely can certainly be transformed into something that is more beneficial than one can imagine. St John Paul the Great wrote about what he called "Original Solitude," as he reflected on the creation of man in the Book of Genesis. He says that solitude can lead to self-awareness. And what does that bring to a lonely person? The reality that you are a unique creature of God and very special in His eyes. Being a special and extremely loved work of the "Potter's Hands." should make you feel that you really aren't ever alone, that you possess a nature unlike any creation in the world, and that you are worth everything to Him. For "In Him we move, and have our being," (Acts 17:28) With God so near to us, most especially in the "Word made flesh," are we ever alone?
