Dear friends,
I am thrilled to announce that my newest book (and first), The Skeptical Catholic, will be released in just a few days! As a subscriber to Always Toward the Light, you’ll be the first to know when it’s available for purchase.
This book was born from countless conversations I’ve had over the years—encounters where someone would say, “Well, I’m Catholic, but I don’t agree with the Church on everything.” Naturally, I would ask, “What specifically don’t you agree with?” and they would offer a statement—sometimes about Church teaching, sometimes about a misunderstanding—but rarely would they allow more than a few seconds for an answer before moving on.
I’ve come to realize that many people carry unasked or unanswered questions about their faith, and I suspect that deep down, they want an answer. That’s why I wrote The Skeptical Catholic—to address these lingering questions with clarity, logic, and the richness of Catholic tradition. Much of what I’ve written in this book, and on this very Substack, is a response to those moments when a deeper discussion was needed but never happened.
This book is for anyone who has wrestled with doubts, who wants to engage more deeply with the faith they grew up in, or who simply seeks thoughtful, well-reasoned answers to the tough questions. Whether you consider yourself a skeptic, a seeker, or someone longing to explain the faith better to others, The Skeptical Catholic is for you.
I’ll be sending out another update as soon as the book goes live. If you’re interested in strengthening your understanding of the faith—or if you know someone who might benefit from this book—please consider purchasing a copy when it’s released.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. Stay tuned for the official launch!
In Christ,
John Henry
