"Hey Siri, can you find God for me?"
“Hey Siri, can you find God for me?”
There’s a long pause. Then she replies, “I found a few churches nearby.”
Not exactly what I meant.
It’s funny how we’ve trained our devices to know everything about us. They know where we are, what we like to eat, the name of our favorite song, and how long it takes to drive home in traffic. But when it comes to the deeper stuff - the things that keep us awake at night - Siri just tilts her head and says, “Hmm. I’m not sure I understand that.”
Maybe that’s the point. We live in a world that knows how to answer almost everything, but has forgotten how to wonder.
If I ask Siri for a pizza place, she’ll give me twenty. If I ask where to find peace, she’ll suggest a meditation app. But what if the ache isn’t in my schedule, or my sleep pattern, or my diet? What if it’s in my soul?
That’s when we discover that the smartest devices on earth can’t search what only the heart can see.
God doesn’t appear on Google Maps, and there’s no app for grace. He’s not trending on social media, though He’s been quietly changing lives since before hashtags were invented.
The truth is, Siri can’t find God because He isn’t lost. We are. And He’s the one doing the searching. He’s in the quiet moments between notifications. He’s in the unexpected kindness of a stranger. He’s in that small voice that says, “You’re not alone,” when the world feels like too much.
Maybe what we need isn’t an upgrade or a faster signal, but a moment of silence long enough to hear Him calling back.
So go ahead. Ask Siri where the nearest church is. But when you get there, turn off your phone for a while. You might just find the answer you’ve been looking for all along.
May your search history always lead you toward the Light!
Warm regards,
John Henry
Before I go …
Below is a clip from Britain’s Got Talent that I have always enjoyed. It’s a performance by Father Ray Kelly back in 2018. I think you might cherish as I have. Enjoy!
